What did he say? What does it mean? 

The summer break is winding down, and schools and universities across the country are gearing back up for the new academic year. But education isn't just for youngsters; you need never stop learning, and that can be particularly true if you're less than fluent in the local language. A solid grasp of Portuguese can add to your quality of life in this country – being able to understand what is going on around you, and why!

The spoken word

There are many ways to learn Portuguese as a foreigner: total immersion, group or individual lessons at a language school, or private lessons at your home or workplace. And then you have the choice of "distance learning", working one-on-one with your teacher by telephone and e-mail – very convenient if you are on the move and unable to attend regular classes.
