When travelling within the European Union you are, in general, entitled to take your personal belongings with you without any restriction. For reasons of public interest, Member States may prohibit or restrict certain goods such as drugs, products from endangered species or certain types of pornography and firearms.
When you move your residence you are in general entitled to take your personal goods with you without paying custom duties taxes and you are not subject to restrictions.
The only exceptions in Portugal came from the Consumption Special Taxes, for this you need to
declare the following goods:
- Vehicles
- Alcoholic drinks
- Oil products
- Tobacco
Medicinal products that have been prescribed by your doctor or which you have purchased lawfully before moving can be carried with you. However the quantities that you are allowed to carry must not exceed the quantities corresponding to your personal needs.
